I would say 12' - 20' or deeper, but that is not a steadfast rule. Primarily you are searching out suspended fish and if there is cover you are targeting the fish above it NOT IN IT unless you are rich. Look for old river and creek channels and work the break. I have always wanted to pull cranks in Piney, but I was advised against it due to the large voulume of recreational traffic during the summer time. I would not pull in the 7'-10' range on the D. I tried this a few years ago and you can catch some fish, but there are ALOT of brush piles at that depth. At Greers you may be in 40+ fow and the fish are suspended at 12' electronics and gps make a big difference to you success using this method. Good luck
