You are both correct, except one is measured from the vertical axis and the other is measured on a horizontal axis. The minor variation in degrees is negligible. I did the measurement for Wayne on my boat using a horizontal axis with a home brew method of measuring with 0-180 deg being horizontal to the deck and 90 deg being the vertical axis, your device appears to be measuring 0-180 degrees on the vertical axis. I would be curious to know if your measurement is free floating. Either way, it is 6 of one and 1/2 dozen of another. I initially told Wayne I thought it was going to be about 38 degrees when I did a quick measurement in the dark. After sleeping on it and thinking there may be a more accurate way to measure, I chose to use the front deck as a wide baseline trying to get more accuracy rather than just measuring using the width of the rail.
Hope this clears up the seemingly difference in measurements. It is the same angle just measured on a different axis.
