not to start a problem but bottom pic is on a excel, unless im reading the dang thing wrong.its a 15' boat, mine is a 17' excel and I used same gauge and got 40 and had some built last year that seem plumb.... also got 2 friends with no rail in the gunnel of their F&F boats... 18' boats so IDK but I will say this, creek makes the best rack around and I have refered him several sales in n.e.a. area and love the plate he's building as well... good day!!

You are both correct, except one is measured from the vertical axis and the other is measured on a horizontal axis. The minor variation in degrees is negligible. I did the measurement for Wayne on my boat using a horizontal axis with a home brew method of measuring with 0-180 deg being horizontal to the deck and 90 deg being the vertical axis, your device appears to be measuring 0-180 degrees on the vertical axis. I would be curious to know if your measurement is free floating. Either way, it is 6 of one and 1/2 dozen of another. I initially told Wayne I thought it was going to be about 38 degrees when I did a quick measurement in the dark. After sleeping on it and thinking there may be a more accurate way to measure, I chose to use the front deck as a wide baseline trying to get more accuracy rather than just measuring using the width of the rail.

Hope this clears up the seemingly difference in measurements. It is the same angle just measured on a different axis.
