You can still do it today. I went last weekend and kind of got a slow start but finally found some. I talked to a lot of people fishing and it was slower last weekend than it has been, but people were catching some fish. Most people are fishing out from the park on the far south end of the lake you won't have any trouble wondering where they are fishing exactly, there will be a lot of boats on the water. They will all be basically doing the same thing, fishing off the edge of the channel, and there is a lot of winding channel to fish so don't let a lot of boats being there discourage you from going because it will be that way all winter. You'll see a lot of boats who will tie up in one spot, don't think they are on the only good spots, because they are not, there are a lot of crappie in that lake, you'll find them. The larger trees that are still standing and the larger stumps will often give you an idea where the channels are. I caught most of my fish fishing about 15' deep in about 20 to 25 fow using a blue and white crappie magnet that I dipped the tail into chartreuse stain making it blue and chartreuse. I did that because someone who was beating me badly was using a Bobby Garland blue thunder with a chartreuse tail and I didn't have anything like that. I think the electric chicken has been working for a lot of folks as well. The pattern that began to produce for me was holding it really steady, then about a 3 or 4" jig up every so often. Seems like they wouldn't hit it setting still but a little jig would make them bite. Too much action didn't work either. If you catch a fish don't give up on that spot too soon, there were more there for me but the bite was slow. I fish Lake Erling a lot because our grandkids live near the lake, you can catch a lot of fish this time of the year, it was just slow last weekend. I'll help you anyway I can, if you've got any questions, just let me know.
