The chips like Navionics or Lake Master only give you quality detail on the lakes they have surveyed. If the lake you fish hasn't been surveyed, it doesn't help you one bit.

The built in Insight program in the Lowrance is made by using topo type maps, and they didn't have to do surveys to share that info with you in their units that offer the Insight program. They just formatted the existing info into the program. The Insight doesn't have the contour definition that the other chips offer, but it does show more and better detail in the topography. Creeks, buildings, bridges, etc. are easy to see in the Lowrance program. With the Lowrance Touch units, you can see the Insight and a chip at the same time on different screens. It helps narrow your search for good areas on most of the larger lakes that have been surveyed by the chip companies.

No, that is strictly for Lowrance. I use the Navonics in my 998 and it shows good detail OMC the lakes I fish over here. You can go to Navonics web site to see which chip works with your 788 and if that chip covers the lake's you fish. Don't know anything about the Lakemaster but you could go to their site and do the same thing.
