Default Question about Lake Conway for D10

Do you think when the 4-6 million gallons of effluent sewer from Stone Dam Waste Water Treatment Plant quits flowing into Lake Conway will have an overall effect on the lake? This is planned to happen in the next couple months. I am sure a study was done but never have seen the report.

Great Question! Yes I think that it will impact the lake. Unfortunately I think that it will be a negative impact when the effluent is no longer discharged into the lake. We have been collecting baseline data of nutrient inputs into all of Lake Conway's tributaries over the last few years. Guess where the majority of Lake Conway's nutrients comes from? Stone Dam Creek and the waste water treatment plant! My educated guess is that shad production will decline with this reduction of nutrients. When the shad population takes a hit, so does the fish that feed on the shad. Hopefully I am wrong. We will be collecting more nutrient data in the years post Stone Dam Waste Water effluent inputs.

Unfortunately Lake Conway is too large to fertilize like our smaller lakes. This will take some creative management to compensate for the lack of nutrients.
