No, it's not illegal state wide. There are some waters, mainly below the dams of the large reservoirs, where chain dragging is illegal. Something to do with trout.
I think these days there are fewer folks dragging chains as many have went to socks. Like many places, it depends on the lake also.

I have not been told that its illegal, unless you are in the trout rivers, and then it is. And I don't fish for trout very often, unless its the green kind.

Chains are prohibited in SOME of the tail waters because they tear up the habitat and destroy the redds (spawning beds). They can also be very dangerous.

Thanks guys.like I said no plans to drag chains in your state but I am about to try it here in ms. tired of being run off the lake with high wind.As far as someone not liking the fact of dragging chains this is America they are entitled to their thoughts

I recently bought a few wind socks, man they sure make a big difference in the wind. Love them! Have never tried chains before.
One area i fish,socks would work but the places I been fishing this week are to shallow and have to many snags.
