Greeson is full of campers, kids on bikes, college kids on Spring Break, and a few diehard crappie guys. Seven cousins & friends (including myself) had planned to stay all week at Kirby Marina Motel and fish & relax. Fish aren't cooperating and neither is the wind and weather. Water temps 55 degrees or so. Catching 4 to as most as 12 per day. When you get one, chances are he's gonna be a good one. One cousin caught a 2 lb 7 oz and another cousin caught a 2 lb 4 oz. Both were females full of eggs. Some are in as deep as 20 feet of water and some are in about 10-12 feet and still a few are on the banks already. Some are biting pink minnows and others have hit Bobby Garland cajun crickets.
I have had enough of the slow fishing and wind. I also have had enough of the 4 college kids partying next door until after 2 a.m. Not being ones to complain to management, we just make sure we make lots of 5:30 a.m. breakfast noise to get them back a little
We iced our fish as we came in over the weekend and cleaned about 40 or so all at one time. Man, did the kids start showing up. Then their folks started showing up. Lots of greenhorns. You know though, I went to Canada a few years back and I did not have a clue about muskies and smallmouth bass. I was the greenhorn there and they picked me out as a southerner right away, eh.
Four of our party are still there at Kirby, but my son and I came home. Too slow for him. I think I may hit our gravel pit farm ponds tomorrow. I'll bet he'll have a blast there catching little ones. That's really what's important anyway. Good luck to you all and everyone enjoy this week of Spring Break, even the A-state college kids in room 8 at Kirby Motel! GTT
