I have heard of people say the Magnolia Crappie, but I don't know much about it. Supposedly you can stock them in ponds and not worry about them over populating. I am not sure if this is true or not.

I've caught those in several different places I've fish in the past. It seems like it's almost always in clean, clear water. I say almost because I caught one last week in a relatively dirty tributary of the Arkansas River.

I am not sure if it has a unique visual characteristic that you can use to determine what it is. I am not even sure that "Magnolia" crappie are even really different than a regular white crappie. I will try to di some research on the topic.
