    Default Nimrod

I remember my dad taking me fishing when I was about 8 years old and I am almost 60. The place was below the dam at a lake in northwest arkansas. I remember walking around on what looked like concrete sidewalks below the dam, catching crappie while the gar swam around my legs. Was this Nimrod lake?

Not sure, don't remember sidewalks ever but some fished the rocks or off sloping concrete retaining walls below the dam here.

Yea, that was a very long time ago. It was kind of scary as a kid fishing with gar bigger than I was swimming around me. That was the first time I ever saw a gar much less being around them. I also remember seeing a guy cleaning one to eat, he had a towel around his snout beating him against a tree at the camp area. To this day I don't know why. But I remember eating some of it that night and it was pretty white meat and pretty good. Wow, memories.

Gar are really fine eating . They are tough to fillet before beating to loosen the hard shell then using hatchet or tin snips to open them up.
