ABH look as far southwest in Arkansas as you can and you'll see Magnolia then go south some more to find Lake Erling, just above Springhill LA. It's really a great lake for crappie fishing, full of stumps, old lakes, and creek channels. IP dammed it up back in the 50's for their paper mill which closed probably 30yrs ago.

Nimrod I was 2 poling it this weekend with jigs. Started out doing best on black and chartreuse crappie magnets with an 1/8oz chartreuse head, but when the bite fell off I changed to some tied jigs my son in law gave me, orange 1/8oz head, pink body, chartreuse and light green tail. I think it's ugly, but the fish liked it, fishing 14' deep in 16 to 18' of water. It almost had to be dead still for them to hit it. You know typical wintertime crappie. I think learning the lake, any lake for that matter, is the key to success. Knowing where the old lakes and creek channels are and then finding the old brush piles. With some direction from local people and my down scan imaging and GPS that shows the creek channels I've learned a lot about this lake and have learned to do ok when down there every other weekend to see my daughter and grandkids. Trolling crankbaits in the summertime produces bigger crappie for me than any other way. I think I'm the only one who does it though. If you want to try a new lake let me know, I'll take you and show you around some and maybe catch a limit of nice ones.
