The only time I ever had trouble with fish that looked as if they were having problems due to the expanded bladder was on Greers. I was catching fish between 30 and 35 feet and they were not in good shape. This was early in the month of February during some cold weather when this happened. Other than that, never had any problems.

Good question. Got me to thinking. Let see, 1 atmosphere of pressure at sea level is 29.92 inches of hg or 14.7 psia or 32.8 feet of water pressure. So if I caught a fish at 20 feet of depth and brought it to the surface, I would be reducing the pressure the fish felt by almost 9 psia, so that would be like me going from sea level to about 12000 feet of elevation in the same amount of time as it took me to pull this fish up. I think I would be struggling to breath also. Taking it one step further, if I caught the fish at 35 feet of depth and brought it to the surface, the pressure change would be greater than one atmosphere of pressure change or like me going from sea level to essentially the vacuum of space, and I know I can't breath in a vacuum. Just goes to prove that them crappie are a lot tougher than we give them credit for and to think, sometimes we think we are having a bad day.

How would that help? As long as water cold and oxygenated mine lived fine and righted themselves in a few hours .
