Thread: Yo-Yo's

With the weather cooling off some, I'm ready to get out there and run some yo-yo's on the Little Maumelle. I haven't tried it out there yet, but I've seen and heard of some folks doing it. The average size coming up the river seems to be getting better. So, we need to try the yo-yo's out soon.

don't do yoyo's but am getting into jug fishing. got a question, how
late in the year can you catch channel cat, and where will they be?

Yes, I'm going this morning and stick out some bamboo poles around some brush so I will be ready. Will probably try to yo-yo later in the week after the rain. Oh yeah, I'll be on Des Arc Bayou. grizzly

Channel cats will bite all year. Try deep holes with lots of cover. Here when we get a big rise on the lake ,they bite good on the back of coves where creeks run in. I've caught them fishing 2' or less over deep water as they are feeding on stuff washed in. I'done this in January when it was 20 degrees too!

Catfish bite all the time. Sometime 25 ft deep or two feet deep. I have jugged many of nights at two feet deep and ran my "floatin yo-yos" at 22ft deep and cought some nice cats. Use live bream for bait.

John one thing we have been doing as my crew is new to jugging to is to stick chem lights in the jug/noodle. You would not belive how well you can see them at night. It makes it so you can do it and not have to constantly shine the jugs for movement. There are some lights that work better than others. Green, yellow, orange, work great stuck in the noodles, the purple and blue we throw in the bait buckets and ice chest for light. We get them at the Dollar Tree stores for obviously a dollar. They come in different styles but we like the 8 inch bracelets that come 15 to a pack. There are others that are bigger thus much brighter but those work well for us.

Keep us posted on your jugging success, and get some pics posted of those kittys.

$30 per jug if they don't have name/address/license # marked on them. Luckily they stopped counting at 4 for me last April. I was even standing on the bank staring at them when they caught me so it wasn't like they were unattended. Yoyos and trotlines have the same requirement but I'm not sure what the fine is... yet. I get stupid when I'm fishing.
