Similar thread going on the main board. Presidents seem to be pretty popular. Doubt anyone recommending them fishes as much as you do Nimrod. Next time I need a new reel I might have to give one a try.

We have used the shimano 1000's for years hard to beat!!! have gotten a little pricey!!! Picked up a couple of Crappie max reels from the new Bass pro in Little Rock at $21.00 ea not bad comes with extra spool!!!

I have Pleugars or however it's spelled on all my poles. I've been using the $30 ones but last one I got the bail don't want to fully close and it rolls line all in one spot on the spool instead of evenly. So the next one I get will be the President series. Not the small ones but that next size up. Love my Pleugars though. I can speak for RangerJSB also when I say they are best ones out there.

I've tried them all, but the best I've found all around is the WaveSpin DHxL. Guaranteed not to tangle and casts about 30% farther. Only reel used by Disney World's guides. I also have the MicroWave Guides on custom Kissel Kraft rods. Incredible combination at a tremendous value.

x2 on the wavespin... I have beat the crap out of two of them for 4 years and they work as well as the day I bought them.

They cost more but I fish with Shimano reels exclusively. I have 4 I bought in 1995 that I'm still using and I fish at least 50 days a year.

What size line and baits do you prefer? I like 4# with 1/16-1/32 jigs. We fish a lot in the tail waters of KY Dam and catch wide variety of fish.
