The American Eagle is a mighty bird. 2 years ago at fall camp I saw that very same thing at Nimrod. Also saw one take a trout on the Little Red River. We are a lucky few that get to see this part of nature.

Yesterday while fishing on the river. I looked up and saw a bald eagle. It circled and circled, lowering each pass. It was really magnificent. As it got lower to the water, talons were out stretched and it snatched a fish of some kind not 75 yards from my boat. Totally in awe from the sight i had never seen before in live action. Just curious what are some of the things you guys have seen that are rememberable events.

Years ago I got to see an eagle do that. I guess he missed because I could not see a fish, but what a sight.
Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.
No way I can top an eagle story. I have many memories of the sights, sounds and awe of their presence.
But, I saw squirrels migrating across the Little Red by the hundreds one time. I told the boy to net a couple for supper. I failed to tell him to drown the 1st little rat before he plopped it in my lap.
I have never seen that sight again.

The wife and I were trout fishing on the White River and witnessed what we assumed to be a momma eagle snatching a trout and taking it to the nest that was right on the river.
I had a baby raccoon try to get in the boat with me on the Little Red.![]()

Last year on Harris Brake Lake, I saw a Mississippi Kite snatch a fish from the lake. A couple minutes later a Bald Eagle was chassing the Kite. Eventually the Kite droped the fish and the Eagle went down and picked it up and carried it off. So in other words the Kite did all of the hard work and the Eagle stole the fish from it. It was pretty cool.

Seen many eagles, always awesome, had one fly within 20 feet of me carrying brush for a nest. Saw deer swimming by, even had one jump into a pond I was fishing on Eglin AFB with 10 feet of me, with a hound on it's tail. Deer swam across, dog got confused and came back on my side. But my favorite was at Lake Mary in Miss. 35 years ago. Was watching 2 squirrels chasing each other and one missed a branch about 50 ft up. Fell to the ground and I thought it died. After a minute it stood up and shook it's head to clear the cobwebs for about a minute. Then right back to the chase. My friend and I laughed. Also ,lost our basket over the side of the boat that day with about 20 crappie and a couple bass in it.(managed to catch about 20 more) Thanks for starting this thread. I enjoyed thinking back on some wonderful memories.

I had basically the same thing happen to me three years ago on Lake Monticello. It was late one afternoon after work and I was the only boat on the lake. The only difference was the fish he grabbed up was one I had thrown to him that was floating 50 feet from my boat. I did not think about the camera in my phone until it was all over with. It was definitely an event to remember.

D10, I saw basically the same thing on Reelfoot this past spring. I don't know what kind of birds those are in those nests all over the lake, but the whitish black bird (I think they are osprey) caught a fish and was flying off when this eagle came from the heavens above in a dive. I'm not sure the 2 collided, but it was an aerial show to remember with the big bald eagle winning. That's cool stuff to watch and I feel blessed to have seen it.
