That'll work. If I know where the structure is, I try to stay off the top of it and just ease the rods into the strike zone. When it gets fall, I'm doing more vertical jigging with 10 single poles simultaneously rather than blind dragging.

If only I coulda got "that fish" in da net.
LRJoe1 show us your boat. Love them Express's. Will you be crankin this Saturday or rigging?
I am about as new as it gets when it comes to Crappie & bass fishing . I just got my aluminum boat and have never tried Spider Rigging before. The fishing I did in the past was mostly salt water or blue water lakes and rivers out west. I moved to TN back in 2008 and got into Kayaking. Then in 2010 I took a job in Colorado and just returned to TN. I can see I have lots to learn as this is a completely different type of fishing from Albacore, Halibut, Salmon, Steelhead, trout and sturgeon.
I am in the process of setting the boat up and Crappie is one of the species I will be targeting. I am still debating if spider rigging will be a method I use but I do thank you for the information you provided. Your post included some of the details a beginner needs to know and was the most informative. Now I will go look to see if that 101 thread was ever started.
Knot I spider rig a lot from my kayak. They make great platforms for spider rigging. I rig 4 poles from my Outback. Of course an aluminum boat does also.
MB I have a 13 ft SOT FeelFree Moken that I am rigging up. Designed in Australia and made in Thailand. Well It came with 4 rod holder and some nice storage up front and a good open area for the Milk crate. I also want to put a depth finder on it but got side tracked for about 2 years in Colorado. I have fished out of it but dealing with 2 poles is about all I can handle with the paddles and all. Mine is yellow and I don't have a pic handy but this is a web site for it. Moken 13 Angler Deluxe | Fishing Kayaks | Feelfree Kayaks (Aust) - Kayaks ,Sit on Top Kayaks, Fishing Kayaks, Sit inside Kayaks, Touring Kayaks, Recreational Kayaks, Moken Series of Kayaks, Kayaks Dry Goods, Kayaks Accessories,Kayaks Wholesaler. I like taking it into the smaller rivers off the lake.
FedEx did not arrive today with my holders. Won't be out Saturday.
Are there many out here that spider rig with jigs mostly? If so I would like to see your setup. Do you use 2 jigs or 2 jigs and a weight? What style jigs do you use and what speeds do you like?
Only line I know of that changes color as it goes out is lead core line. That would not be useful for crappie for putting things down deep without a downrigger. Don't know of any other line. If it was important for you you could get a reel with a line counter or mark off the line yourself with colored thread or some other such identifier.
How do you keep your pre-rigged set-ups organized and tangle free. I've tried rolling mine up on a swimming noodle and that doesn't seem to work unless I'm doing it wrong, besides it takes up too much space. Any help would be appreciated.
I am not far enough along to have any pre-rigged stuff for Crappie Fishing. In a past life I used PVC with notches in it and could run my leaders lengthwise on it. Sometimes I would use Toilet paper Rolls and stuff the rig inside the roll to keep it tangle free. Always seemed to be enough rolls around. haha. Space is always an issue regardless of the size of your boat or house. I think sometimes were carry too much stuff with us and use about 10 % of it. Well that how it seems it goes for me. I think the best organizer is being smart with what you take with you to start with. Having said that I don't practice it... I got a enclosed trailer in my drive that has the stuff I moved out to TN. That was in 2008. I am going to have to unload that one of these days.
I use snell holders they will not nick or kink your line and ea.holder will hold two rigs.and I use a plano model#3600 it will hold 18 snell holders.the snell holder will accommodate any length and design.
ok, question.....I understand the importance of using Meatgetter minner critters....got some ordered more....but if you are using a pole or two with regular hook and minnow, what hook type and size do you use?
I use a 1/0 rotating eagle claw black crome or tru turn #2 red if I just use a plain hook which is not often! !!! MINNER CRITTERS DO MAKE A Difference !!!!!!
Meatgetter I'm not sure what a snell holder is but I will look it up on the internet. thanks for the info. Do any of you use small zip-lock bags?
Cabelas has them they maybe in the walleye section. They kind of look like a little ladder. The plastic bag does not work!!!!
Meatgetter i went to Cabelas tonite and bought the snell holders you advised. Wasn't sure how to use them but fiured it out. They work great. Thanks for the help. I tried to send a picture but it want let me.
AndThey are great to keep your pre tyed rigs on.I think I have 36 .that give me 72 rigs I have 12 one oz 8 one quarter and the rest (54) one half oz since that's the size I use 98% of the time.
