I'm not a minnow basher, but we don't use them much. As long as a guy can pick them up pretty regular on jigs, why bother with minnows?

I know, I know. I am definitely a crappie fishing ammature. I probably missed at least a dozen bites and I yanked the jig out of several fishes mouths. They could have just been white bass. I constantly have to be reminded not to set the hook like I am bass fishing.

It shouldn't matter, if you are using good hooks and light action jig pole. I try to cross their eyes with every hookset and I don't lose many. I have launched many a dink across the boat and into surrounding trees due to a heavy hookset. I miss more fish due not getting a good enough hookset on the light biters.

Good to know. I will keep trying to rip their lips off. That is more fun anyway.

Haven't been over there in a few weeks but they should get to feeding pretty heavily now. A pink jighead seems to work best for us over there with or without a minnow. We also fish a plain pink jighead only with a good sized minnow. We've caught some really nice crappie this year doing this. Keep trying 'em!

Someone needs to video Nimrods hook set. Slab crappie just lays on the bottom of the boat blinking his eyes and saying "What just happened? I was setting in my living room minding my own business and was thinking about a purple and chartreuse snack, now I'm in the bottom of this boat". Never seen nothing like it in all my born days.
