Talking Status of Black River Lakes

I need some help from some of you NE Pros, especially the ones on here that love to fish the Black River lakes like me. I use to have 2 or 3 lakes about 45 min to an hr drive off the Black that I loved to fish. One is now private, Tucker Bay so that is out. The other I think had a major fish kill last year when the drought was so bad and that is Robinson Bay. Can anyone confirm that about Robinson?

I also got a report that a few of the other lakes in that same area had major fish kills last year as well but I haven't fished them this year and can't confirm that. Any info on which of the lakes still have fish would be much appreciated and save me precious gas and time. I don't get out much so I can't afford another trip to a dead lake.

I had read on here that Horner Bay was private now, but I was told by another fisherman here in Jonesboro recently that it is still open to public you just have to pay to launch, which has always been the case. Can anyone confirm that one?

What about Sunshine Lake; it is another with a dirt launch that we use to be successful in but I havent heard anything about it in a few years. That is what we always called it, but it may have another name I suppose?

I am trying to identify another Black River lake or two to fish because Shirey and Portia are overfished especially on weekends I think. Really appreciate any info you guys have on any of these area lakes. If you are concerned about sending a crowd send me a PM. I promise as a proud member of Team LOSER I won't be a threat to your favorite lake

I do know the sign is down for Horner bay, not sure if you can fish it. As far as Robinson, it's high but not terribly muddy, have caught some fish around there but not as many as I had hoped. Was talking to a game warden over there the other day and he wasn't sure why we weren't catching any . You'd think he'd said something if they'd died out last year.

    No fish die off...
    Horner is off limits.
    Sunshine off limits.
    Robinson looks good..
    Wilson lake off limits..
    Clear lake off limlts.
    Tucker off limlts.
So you see why portia and sher'y are so busy on the weekends.

That really sucks! I wish there was some way to purchase a public easement or something for these types of lakes!

So, I guess my trip to Robinson was a fluke? We fished a great morning although it was pretty cool. The water looked great. We did not get a single bite for 2 hrs and neither did the other boat on the lake with us. There were also no fish moving around the lake; no signs of life. But, maybe this is just further proof I am LOSER material.

Thanks, I have never really fished rivers themselves. I have always wanted to, but have always fished backwater and oxbow lakes. May not have a choice in a couple of years.

Horners bay was a great place to fish. I hate the fact that it is no longer open!

You and me both! I lived in Lake City Tony. My dad pastured Bethabra Baptist Church when I was a kid. We lived on Cane Island. In fact I learned to jig fish in the bar pits rt there. You and me need to go exploring the St Francis since all the Black River Lakes are private just about. How about the fishing over by Mangrum's Landing?

I think I just hijacked my own thread?

They tell me that mangrum's landing sports some of the best Kentucky Bass fishing in the state. I haven't tried it for crappie but I am thinking about trying the bass out when it gets good and hot this summer.

Yeah man don't them rain on your leg,Robinson a good lake.I know nomove movement the last 3 days, gar swirls is about all.
When you go by robinson just keep going until you come to a y and turn left keep going and going until you see another lake.Horse shoe lake, its a swallow lake, like most oxbows it has its days.Right now nomovement but gar swirls, the lake is full of small wittle bity hair like bady fish.More likely robinson is full of them too,all the bigger fish have to do is just swim with their mouth open and get a belly full.
I'm around those lakes all time and if they were a fish kill I would have seen it.Don't letem rain on your leg, fish are still there.
