Try em. The only thing u can do is catch a big CRAPPIE!
I agree 100. Percent! If big fish are not there. The minnows wont matter.
Ive caught big ones in miss. But I have 3 over 3 and and a dozen or more close to three I caught 5 min. From my shop.
Small crappie will eat a big minnow too. Think about this, a 2 inch jig tipped with a 2 inch minnow...2+2=5. A 6 inch crappie will attack that offering like it's his last meal, and it may very well be its last meal if it hits on my pole. I'm probably wrong about this, but I'm thinking crappie don't sit down to 3 squares so they will eat what they see when they see it. Larger bait = easier to see especially in murkier or shadowed water. Where do crappie like to hang out? In the shadows. In other words, yes, big minnows work lots of times. You can fish all you want with a minnow a foot long and it will not make 3lb crappie magically appear in your lake (that line is for all you lurkers who don't know better). Here's is the best tip of all. Give blackfish a call and get him to take you fishing in a "big fish" lake. You will use big minnows and catch the biggest crappie that will bite. I assume he is a sponsor. Personally I'm a fan of 4 ouncers (of which I have about a hunnert in the freezer), caught on minners big enough to cause the spider rigging poles to twitch. That way it gives you something to do, setting the hook on the minner wiggle from time to time. No, I've never caught a 3 lber, but I didn't flinch one time when I put the knife to the 2.87 we caught last month.

Thanks. I have caught numerous 5 inch crappie on 4 inch minnows. I release them carefully cause they grow up to be ELEPHANTS.
I believe in big minnows on certain body's of water at certain times of the year. It don't work every time on all body's of water that would be too easy!
