I heard about it this morning. I had fears it was one of us.
    I will pray.

This river claims lives every year, not one to mess around on, one of my best friends lost his brother-in-law and 16 year old nephew a couple years ago near burns park area, I never go on this river without a life jaket!!!

Cprl. Spurlock said the lower unit appeared to have been hit by something and the boat ran out of fuel. Reminder to always use the kill switch as you never know when youre gonna smack somethin potentially throwin you out of the boat.

Not only for safety, but its the law. Its like a $150 fine for not having your kill switch lanyard attached to you (if your motor is equiped with one).

I used this story last night as a teaching point for my boys. They have both successfully completed boater's education, so I sat down with them and told them that a fisherman was lost on the river and that his boat had turned up without him.

The first two things out their mouths were lifejacket and kill switch.

According to the press reports a lifejacket was found in the empty boat. Also, as has been mentioned already, the engine had run out of fuel, indicating that either a kill switch wasn't present or it wasn't being used. According to the press, the boat sustained a collision, probably with a log, and it is presumed that the boater was thrown from the vessel.

This is a tragic and avoidable situation. It should serve to remind each of us that we should always expect the best but be prepared for the worst every time we go out on the water.

I would hate to leave my boys fatherless simply because I failed to follow basic safety protocol.

I saw that on the news last night. Horrible situation. It just takes a second to put on that vest and lanyard before you crank your motor. I used to never wear my vest and could have been in this same situation many times. Prayers for his family.
