Saw the same telecast myself just now, Dennis. That sounds a whole lot worse from what has been reported to us in the past! Hope D10 can bring us up to date on this.

My wife keeps saying I never listen to her....... or something like that!
This is not the first time this has been reported since the pipe busted. Makes you wonder.

I just heard the same report today at about 3:00pm. We are currently checking the validity of the claim. Here is what I know. This claim was made by a man who ownes a company called OPFLEX. Apparently at some Faulkner County Earth Day Celebration he reported that he has been conducting his own water quality samples and that he has found contaminants. Coincidently he was trying to pedal his "miracle" oil absorbing boom to Exxon and they did not buy it. We also found one of his wonder booms down on Palarm Creek near the Grassy Lake Rd. bridge. SInce he was not permitted to put this in the creek, it will be treated as litter. At this point in time I will have to go with the data that the independant water quality firm and the ADEW have collected. To date I have not seen any abnormal levels in the lake. I can assure you that we are looking into this matter and we will get to the bottom of it. Beleive me, if contaminant have got into the lake, we would not hide it. Not only is this an issue of fish health, it is also an issue of human health. I will give another report when I find out some more information.

Thanks so much, D10. please keep us posted, if you can.

At this point, do you suggest that people refrain from eating fish caught in the lake???

I have seen no evidence of contamination in Lake Conway. All data that I have seen suggests that Lake Conway is free of contaminants. Therefore I see no reason why somone should not consume fish from Lake Conway. If I see data that is valid and contradicts previous data, we will let the public know.

D10, all the work you folks do for our fisheries is appreciated. I'm hopeful that the data done by the state and the independent lab will continue to show no contaminants. I still feel sorry for all the folks who now have contaminated property. I don't think property values would ever come back from that.
