Default Old Town Lake, Sat. report

It was bad! Horrible in fact!

We were fishing by 7 AM and I fished hard till 5 PM. My dad was trying to persuade me to call it by 12

The weather actually treated us ok, but the wind and cloud cover changed several times throughout the day. We tried everything and everywhere. We fished every depth of trees we could find, we drifted through trees, we threw jigs into the shallows and tried keeping the boat away from the trees...same result. The bait shop was closed that morning so we only had jigs.

Total fish caught was 5: 3 small crappie (all caught early) and 2 catfish.

The water looked great and was about 65 degrees in the lake except for one end that was kind of muddy and shallower. That same end was 5 degrees cooler as well. So, I guess that is where a lot of run off comes into the lake?

When we left we drove the hwy next to the lake looking to see if the spillway was open and it looked like it was. The volume of water coming out of the lake didn't seem that high though. There were 50 people probably fishing the ditch on the other side of the hwy from the lake.

Two other guys we talked to didn't seem to be doing very well either. I would be interested to know if any CCers fished Old Town Sat. with any better results. If so, please share so we can at least learn something from our wast of gas and time

To be honest, I'm still frustrated today. I don't get many all day fishing trips and that was a sure enough bust!
no matter what I'm doing, I've got hunting or fishing on my mind...

I am also sorry to hear about your trip htr2133. Old Town has always been feast or famine. I should have further explained about the spillway. When it is open you should trailer your boat and bank fish on the west side of the spillway because the fish gather there with the moving water. Not many know this but if you will drive east on the gravel road just south of the spillway and get on the levee there is also a bridge that you can fish this same channel without all of the "company". I am going to give the White River lakes a try for a few days starting on Friday. If it is a bust then I will come back to Alabama and fish the Tennessee River. The bass are really active over here.

Just a heads up, most of the roads are closed on the South unit, Roads are open on the North unit with the exception of Brown Shanty. The River is really stickin it to us down here. Also, you can't get to the boat ramp at Swan on the North unit.

ARflinger, which river? The Mississippi or the White? Do you have any information on Maddox Bay and the lakes off of it as far as water levels, clarity, etc as well as a fishing report? Thanks.

The river at St. Charles is at 22.87 right now and you should be able to access some of the lakes from Maddox or Indian Bay like Big 90 and Moon lakes. The water has been pretty muddy and there have not been a lot of good reports. There are a few being caught mostly trolling but no big numbers that I have heard of. The White is the one killin us but it is because of the sippi.

Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service: Little Rock This site will help you keep an eye on the local rivers and you can call 870-282-8200 option 1 for road conditions on the refuge. Hope this helps.
