We did our annual electrofishing sample for largemouth bass in Lake Charles on Monday night. I have posted some pictures to show that a lot of times rumors are just rumors, lol!! We did not see a decrease in the largemouth bass population in the lake. In fact, it appears the average size of the bass has increased. I haven’t worked up the data because we are still sampling other lakes right now. I did make a rough count and we sampled 369 largemouth bass. Of those 369 bass, 30 of them were 20 inches or bigger. 20 inch bass this time of the year are 4.5 pounds and bigger. Our biggest was 22.8 inches long and weighed 7.5 pounds. All the fish were released and ready to be caught. I have attached a couple of pictures from the samples. These were from the 10 minute runs before sunset where we could get decent pictures. We caught many more after dark. We also saw lots of crappie up shallow as well. Most of them were small (7 to 9 inches) but we did see some decent size crappie (10 to 13 inches). We saw the typical amount of sunfish (basically they were everywhere).
