If you are use to using a cable steer you won't like the PD much when single poling but you will like it for spider-rigging.![]()

If you are buying a new power drive v2 I would spend the money and get the ipilot.
Terrova i-pilot 12v 55. I fish out of a 16 foot stick steer boat. When I single pole most of the time I sit on the front with a paddle in my hand. The I pilot is nice to move from top to top without having to get up or use the foot control. As for trolling I feel its the best motor out. With auto pilot its like Ronco, "set it and forget it". You can use the foot control and remote at the same time. When trolling I often correct direction by tapping the bottom control of foot control. Very easy on battery. Plenty of power to pull crankbaits.

I've got both the Minnkota cable steer & the Powerdrive V2 on different boats. The cable steer has 5 speeds & the V2 is variable speed. They both have advantages, but I prefer the cable steer in most situations. The variable speed is great, but the cable steer is a lot quieter when turning. It's also a lot less expensive. I've had the foot pedal go out on the V2, but the cable steer's given me no problems. If you can at all, I'd suggest finding someone with both types & trying them out--see which one you prefer.
