Does anybody know the price difference between having a skin mount compared to a replica? Also who is the best at each?

I put a 3.5 pound crappie in the freezer once with good intentions of mounting it. About 8 years later, when were cleaning out the freezer to move, I found it and discarded it. Perhaps next time I'll actually remember to get it mounted!![]()

We have all seen those fish mounts in the local cafe or bait shop that looks like someone dug it out of a wet garbage dump. I guess that's what happens when a mount wasn't skillfully done or wasn't taken care of. I assume that kind of deterioration is not expected from a reproduction mount. I know nothing about mounts but like the idea of releasing the fish to pass on those excellent genes and having its plastic twin on the wall to enhance the memory of the catch.
Never had one mounted. I like pictures. There is only one fish that I sometimes regret not getting mounted. She was a 13.6lb walleye, I am still torn on that one. I took some pics, that I can't find anymore, and put her back in the lake strong and healthy like she was when I boated her.
