I didn't want to hijack Creekslick's wonderful story about a "Fun Day". But, it reminds me of more than 25 years ago when I had my boy fishing under a bridge on lake Conroe in Texas. No one used rod holders like we do today. He was lollygagging around on the back deck when I noticed his rod take off. I told him he needs to check his bait and watched him search for his rod. He originally thought I hid it from him.
I lit into his hiney about not paying attention and costing me $15 for his rod and reel. When I stopped to catch my breath, he said "where are yours?".
I lost two poles while I was giving him a lecture. Never did know what they wuz. But, they got 3 poles from my boat that day.

While fishing one day I got some fishing line on my jig. Well I wasn't going to leave that line in the water so after pulling in several yards of line the end of a pole came up. When I picked it up it was a rod and reel so I dropped the line and started reeling it in. About the time I got the slack out I figured out there was a fish on it. Wound up being about a 5 pound catfish. I've always wondered how that storied went about the one that got away. No D.P it wasn't in Texas.

That's funny cause once I was Catfishing and told my neighbor to watch his rod. Explained we had lost some. Well I had to say I told you so. Then I was reeling one in and another hit lightly on my second baitcaster setup. I thought it was a dink and continued to reel and my good rod left! He got to gig me back about watching my fishing pole. I can laugh now but was upset then see'n a high dollar Bass rig hit the water.
