Battery Charger Question
Been fishing all week, caught two.....gonna give it up for a while, play with the baby's mama or something.
In the meantime, I have a battery charger question. This is driving me nuts. Hard to explain but I'll try.
I have a 24v TM.....Lowe Stinger 19' with 115 hp Merc. I have an onboard MinnKota 315D 3-bank battery charger hooked up to 2 blue-top Optimas for TM, and one normal big-CCA battery for starter motor and both depthfinders.
When I store the boat, and plug up the 315D, it comes on as advertised. First, solid yellow lights on all three banks saying it is charging each bank/batter. Next, it goes to blinking green on all three. The manual says that this means the batteries are fully charged. It blinks for 24 hours, and then goes into maintenance mode. At that point, all three lights go solid green and two of them stay there like that..........I guess forever. They never change.
However, bank #2 will go solid green when the other two do, but after a day or so it will again start blinking green again. It will then blink green a long time, and occasionally go solid green.........and even occasionally go back to yellow for a few seconds, then back to blinking green. After a while, it usually goes to solid green again, but won't stay there. The blinking green does mean "fully charged", but why does it go back to that mode when the other two will stay in maintenance mode (solid green) all the time????
I have taken the battery out and taken it back to Auto Zone, where I got it, and they test it and say it's fully charged and no issues.
The one thing I have thought about doing, but haven't (because I have to stand on my head to get into battery compartment, and I just haven't done this yet) yet is to switch the 315D connections from #1 to #2, reverse them (same battery types) and see if it A) does same thing on battery #2 or B) does same thing on battery #1. I assume if A) happens, there is something wrong with the battery that I may never figure out or get fixed, and if B) then there is something amiss with the charger, that again I may never figure out.
Or.......just shut up and live with it as is.
Suggestions?
Thanks for any help.
