    Default Crappie Nibbles

    I hate these darn things!

Some buddies turned me on to them several years ago..
I can not decide if they work or not!

Several days, including today... I refused to use them and caught nothing!
Pop one on... Catch fish like crazy!
    It happens all the time!!!
    ?!?Coincidence?!?
Now... I have caught them many many times without them..

But this makes me use them regardless!

When the tour came to Conway a few years ago, I was fishing while they were practicing and several LAUGHED at me! "What is that? PowerBait ?" "Hahaha" shaking their heads!

The only logical conclusions I can come up with is :
I think many cast fish charge the lure, take a look and back off.. I have seen trout do it a zillion times. Maybe they get a wiff?

    Or..

We used to have a snapping turtle in a fish tank. I would feed it minnows.
This think would strike like a rattle snake knocking scales off making it rain glitter...
Could the glitter from the nibble cause a strike?

I would like to hear y'all's opinions!

I just started using them last year. Mainly used minnows before. Now i mainly use jigs with a chartreuse nibble, and seem to out fish the minnows. One of the guys I fish with has to always use minnows. Until I start out catching him 4-1. Don't get me wrong though. I will still use minnows when they aren't hitting the jigs.

Fish have a since of smell, nibbles have a scent of bait fish and the glitter just adds to the realism of scales coming off the bait when a fish hits, or an injured bait fish fleeing, the nibble also leaves a scent trail right in the crappies face when he follows your bait you can even see the scent trail in the water when you move the bait through the water. I also believe when a crappie bust your jig with a violent strike and explodes the scent and glitter in the water it triggers a feeding frenzy amoung other crappie near by dispersing the scent. I also think the nibble aids in the strike decision and makes the crappie hold onto the jig longer due to making the jig taste more like a Tbone steak and not just a piece of rubber or hair.

Here is my thought...you are trying to fool a living creature into thinking your offering is food...so why not make that offering as tempting as you possibly can by adding or simulating scent, size of prey, color, and sound if possible. By Doing this you know your doing everything you possibly can to simulate the real thing to your prey. I believe in a nibble and always use them.

Sounds like I need to get some with the glitter in them.

I believe it only matters what you think. I on the other hand hate those nasty little carpet mess'n boogers! Two guys and I fishing together yesterday , only one used nibbles and we laughed at him. Told him to not waste time and catch fish instead of baiting nibbles.

It is said that the fish's sense of smell is 1,000 percent better than a hound dog. That's why a shark can smell a drop of blood from a mile away. It is also why I always use nibbles.....they do work. That is also why you should keep your hands very clean and try not to spill gas on yourself that morning before going fishing or baiting up your rigs. When the fish are feeding like piranah you don't need them but on a slow bite they definitely help.

I use em. Some of em. The rest, I spill and mash into the deck of my boat. But they work.

I have never had a situation where nibbles made the difference between fish or no fish, as some people have. I have actually caught more fish shortly after losing/removing the nibble from my hook. So I alternate every few minutes between nibble and no nibble. I rarely catch fish with the nibble on

I even have three bait pumps so I can switch colors to match the jigs I use. I can't say that it helps. Makes me feel like I am doing all I can though.
