    Default Old School Secrets

    old school secrets

I think old school secrets are about a thing of the past. Now I say that because I have lose everyone in my family that fishes. My dad did a lot of Crappie fishing when I was younger. I had a uncle that was the real crappie man. he always fish out a little boat with a boo pole and always had fish in his boat on his way home. My grandpa was a big fisherman with spending most if his life on Mississippi river feeding his 14 kids. He fished the river at ark city and most people know him for fishing and drinking and the 14 girls. All have pass on and so did there secrets. I did not start fish into I turn 48. I always had other thing in my life that was mort import. Do you have any old school secrets? How often to you tell other your Secrets? Would you be willing to sear them with us.

I wished I knew what my grand father's secrets were--both of them. They always knew where to fish and how. Now, I don't have a clue how they knew what they knew. I often wonder what they would think about the technology or $thousands$ I have in my gear.

I don't think a good fisherman 50 yrs ago was any better, if as good, as a good fisherman today. There was a lot less pressure on fish populations 50 yrs ago.

This and typically older generations on crappie fished in the spring, and that made it seem easy. Looking back, and Im not that old, in the beginning that's how it was for me. I realize there is only a short window where I can take and old clip on plastic bobber with a minnow 2ft under it, and catch crappie after crappie. I think I got took fishing back then during that short window when it seemed easy *spawn*

What I remember most about fishing 50 years ago is that we never got to do very much of it! Dad usually had us working in the fields! But it sure was a treat when we did get to go and we usually caught plenty of fish!..lol

I have to agree with RockMike. Remember going places with my Grandfather fishing for fish that had never seen a baited hook or lure. Always fished from the bank so you had to pick a good spot because there wasn't a lot of moving around. Where I grew up in SE Oklahoma there were no big lakes just a couple of old WPA lakes a lot of people didn't even know about and mostly fished creeks and small remote farm ponds that were built way back in the woods for watering livestock.
I don't know if it's a secret or not but Granpa dipped snuff and he wouldn't put a bait in the water without spitting some snuff on it,he always said it made the worms wiggle better

Raised rabbits for a spell and when I began, I didn't know nothin' about them. Got my "start", i.e., buck and a doe from an old school, old timer. He said; " here is the best advice I can give you about raising rabbits, and also knowing the rabbit it's self. Go sit with them as much as you can for as long as you can and they will teach you everything you need to know". so......Go allot. Fish allot. Try different things. Learn about "the bite". Sometimes it is "on" and you'll catch a boat load, next time it's "off" and you can't buy a bite even if you're a millionaire, so learn when it is on and go fish more,,... when it is! The longer you have a fishing rod in your hand,,... and fishing,,... the more answers you will receive. Shortcut to "it" all,,....crappie.com! Good luck and enjoy your "study"!
Oh by the way,,...I ended up, when I stopped raising rabbits, with over 100 does that I had for Mother does, and seven registered, award winning, rabbits as breeding stock and show rabbits. My does gave me a liter every 60 days and it took the babies just seven weeks from birth to sell as a 3lb fryer! They averaged eight to a littler! It took me three years of learning and being with the rabbits to be able to breed up, out of my own stock, to get a two way, registered cross for the mom does, and then to get a three way cross when I added the buck, for the ones that I was selling! The fun was in the learning.* Have a good day.

I always thought you had to have a 10' boat and skull it around just like Pa did to catch fish... With all the "Old School" stuff...
Wrong! I catch more fish than any ole timer ever thought about...

Not trying to sound arrogant... Just saying...
