    Default Good times

I got to spend a couple days at the cabin with my boys this weekend. We have been planning it for a week or so. So when I woke up Friday morning with Strep, I decided to just tough it out and head on up there anyway. We got there at about 5 p.m., and we launched the boat right away. I wanted to hang a few yo-yos before it got dark because the boys really enjoy that. I realized pretty quick that I wasn't going to be able to run the outboard and hang the yo-yos too, so I decided that it was a good time to teach my oldest how to operate the outboard. I told him to always make sure that it is in neutral, give it some throttle, and pull the rope. Apparently, this confused him, oh he gave it plenty of throttle alright, but it was in gear! We ran at about half speed through the lay-down I was about to tie a yo-yo to, RAMPED a Cypress stump and then slammed into the bank! Man, when I saw that tree coming at me, I gripped that yo-yo so hard that it ripped the whole branch off the tree! When we came to a stop, I was sitting there holding that limb and yo-yo with the hook buried in the palm of my hand! I also realized that I now had a broke trolling motor! I guess I had it coming, I did this to my grandpa several times when he was teaching me all those years ago. Yeah buddy, good times.

Your son will never forget it!!! Was fishing with my father years ago.I was about 5 or 6 my job when fishing was to count and take care of the fish!!! We used stringers to string or fish. A friend had given him a fish basket the fold up kind with a wire lid in the bottom of the fish basket. We were fishing he had caught a basket full of big crappie!! My job was to cull the smallest for the biggest crappie. My father had almost a full basket of crappie. We were going to have a fish fry at our camp.We kept the basket over the side of the boat to keep the fish alive. Some how the bottom lid got caught on a limb or something and opened the bottom of the fish basket let almost all of the fish(crappie) out.He was mad (Army Man) Even to this day I have not forgotten it like yesterday!!!

Good teaching lesson on both ends. Glad you did not turn over in boat and get well

There is nothing like spending time with your kids! Even when you are up a tree with a hook in your hand!!!!! Hahahaha I can almost see it with my own sons.

He'll get the hang of it before long. Always good to do something with the kids.

Even with the mis-hap, it will be good memories to look back on some day. My son is grown now at i'm glad for the times spent in the field or on the water.. Hope you get well soon.
