    Default what will i do?

Just signed up. I will be lost this fall with Conway being drained. I will need a new place and have been sizing up the Big Maumell. Any suggestions? I went exploring last weekend. I saw 6 of the Prettiest Bucks I have ever seen. They were swimming across the river about 1/2 mile up from the club.

Welcome to the board Dr Pepper. What part of the river are you refering to you saw the bucks? When you say club does that mean Maumelle Country club, Little Rock Yacht Club, or the Little Maumelle Yacht Club? CEB fishes the Little Maumelle frequently and sees some nice bucks there himself. You need to hook up with him and get the tour of the area. Be careful if you are fishing the river and putting in at Palarm Creek. More thugs than skeeters arround there and you might not find your boat or truck on return from a fishing trip. I know cause I has happened to a buddy of mine. In addition I know of several others that have had break ins at Palarm while they are fishing. Good luck fishing the river till Conway fills back up for you.

Hey there DrPepper, We used to go to Adam's Lake and fish Conway when they had it drained down years ago. Jig fish all the stumps around what used to be Adam's Lake before Conway was built. We used to catch 2 limits every day we fished and would be back in L.R. by 10:00 am!

Can CEB be trusted after the stunt he pulled with that fishing report a few days ago? I saw the deer above the LR Yacht Club. Thanks for the advice about Palarm Creek. I have just started keeping a party boat at the LR club and have acess to their launch.

Yeah CEB is a real good guy. His only problem is he is a crappaholic and a med student and thats a bad combo. He cant go like he wants to so he gets a little testy some times. He fishes the Little Maumelle primarily but has done some exploring up by and in the LR Yacht Club. He usually catches a some good fish and especially for this time of year. What do you say CEB what should a man do to catch some fish on the Big Maumelle?

DRPEPPER , Welcome to the board . Why not Conway ? Not able to launch your boat? Would say Nimrod , but the fishing is bad right now. It should get better this fall.

I'm not too familiar with the Big Maumelle. I mainly concentrate on the lower Little Maumelle. However, the crappie's habitat and movements cannot be too much different. Most of my success this summer has been spider-rigging (slow, slow trolling) with minnow-tipped jigs. Some days they just want a minnow and other days they want the combo. I have found most fish between 12-16' deep in 14-20' of water. They are mostly hanging around brush, so if you can find good brushpiles, vertical jigging would produce fish. But, it is easier to get out and scout while slow trolling around the channel and ledges. I haven't done as good as the summer progresses, and I'm almost certain that the majority of the fish have moved back out into the primary river. I have only gone once this summer and gotten skunked and that was mainly due to the wind. So, if you try this technique, you will at least catch some quantity of crappie.

Thanks for the replies guys (hey that rhimed!!).
Nimrod-thanks for the report I was headed to Nimrod soon. I really haven't checked to see if I could get my boat in Conway. It is too big to drag.
Ceb-I will give that method a try. I have "Seen 'er done", but have never done it my self.
I hope to run into you two and Gooch soon.

I forgot to mention you too Slabbandit. I have lived in Little Rock for ten years and I have to admit, I have gotten lazy about finding new spots after I found the pool and the flats on Gold Creek. Every year at this time I get anxious for the weather to cool down in October for slabs in the pool. Then just about the time that plays out, the red ears are on the flats for a couple of months starting in Feb. That is about the only time I can find fish on Conway. One stump looks like another to me.

Hey DP, I haven't lived in LR too long. I've been to Conway a handful of times over the past year without much production, except for a couple of good bream trips. We should trade a trip sometime when Lake Conway starts filling back up in Dec. I know that Conway can produce, but I've heard that you need to know on which spots to focus. I could show you some things on the Little Maumelle, which would provide you with a shorter drive for a quick outing on your own.
