When fishing deep water add a split shot 18 inches above your jig. The added weight helps put u back in the strike zone quicker and when hung up on brush it can sometimes help get unhung by pendulum side to side. You can also fish two jigs 18 inches apart but just more to lose if get hung up. Or use a larger 1/4 oz jig head to get your jig down deeper quicker. Several ways to accomplish the same thing. Tight lines.

I favor the last option as I like to maintain a tight line to detect soft bites. Also watch line size in deep water and/or current. The lighter the line the less drag and faster fall enabling you to get down to the fish and maintain depth..

how much weight do you like using? I have some 1/2oz that I been using for tight line. Is that to heavy
All men are created equal, some work harder in the preseason.

I use 1oz under two minners when fishing deep or trolling fast. 3/8 to 1/2 when slow trolling shallow(15ft or less) I use larger jigs when jigging deep and rarely add any weight when vertical jigging at any depth. I feel that this maintains senitivity and keeps the presentation more natural. JMO though, I have tried it both ways.
