When fishing deep water add a split shot 18 inches above your jig. The added weight helps put u back in the strike zone quicker and when hung up on brush it can sometimes help get unhung by pendulum side to side. You can also fish two jigs 18 inches apart but just more to lose if get hung up. Or use a larger 1/4 oz jig head to get your jig down deeper quicker. Several ways to accomplish the same thing.
