Very important but not as much so as my Minn Kota I-Pilot trolling motor.

    Depends on where you fish....

Open water lakes with no visible structure it is a must...

The GPS and Nav card IN the FF is the most important part of the FF. but got to admit the ipilot is about even.

My depth/fish finder is critical to me catching fish. Today I was out fishing for bass and I used the depth finder to locate water that was just about 2 degrees warmer than the main body of the lake and we managed to catch several nice bass. They have many valuable option and uses. When hunting prespawn crappie and bass a couple of degrees in water temp can mean the difference in a productive day or a big zero.

Most places it is very important, but on my home lake my GPS is all I really need to locate fish.

They've came a long ways. I used to say all I wanted my finder for was to know the depth and water temps but now days they do so much more. I just upgraded one of my finders as most on here know by now and only thing I gotta do is play with the new one enough to recognize how to see structure clearly and what fish look like on it. Really nice to be able to just hit mark and log that spot for future reference.
