I believe in at least three days of pre fishing...and returning the fish, leave that spot alone till game time if you caught a few good ones off it Main thing is dont burn em up.. Catch at least two good ones...return them...keep a secret and return at game time. It will pay off for ya...

We used to catch fish to be tagged in the old Crappiethon days, and some were caught within a day or two of release, some close to the release site, and some 5 miles away. It depends on the amount if stress the fish goes through before release. JMO tho.

One neighbor accused us of sore lipping all the Crappie one summer on a certain spot. We would catch 100 to 200 jiggin every morning and keep a limit. He said most of what he caught had hook marks in their mouth.

In the bass fishing world of tournaments, the order of business is to find your fish for the tournament a few days before the tournament, then do so home work and find a back up plan, then you defense fish, fish as many of your opponents spots as you can the day before the tournament and relocate the fish so that your opponents fish are beaten and battered and relocated as far away from their spot as possible. That's just the way it works in the bass fishing world. Of course this is as long as time permits you to.
