I have always had 2 but if the wind got anywhere close to 15mph they just weren't enough and the day was over. I got 2 more and just added a longer lead on them and we throw them out first then the shorter ones. Worked really well. Wind was forecast to blow 13mph the other day and that's about the tops I will go to Sardis on but it sure was nice to have those 2 extra socks instead of a wasted trip. Btw, the weathermen missed it bad on their forecast yesterday

So since Im a rookie at spider riggn, how does the socks affect the boat when you go into the wind? Im sure you don't take em up, just speed up trolling motor? If so, how much do you have to increase and does it affect battery time on the lake (when you didn't have the golf carts)

When its blowing hard enough to use them we go with the wind. They really help to keep the speed down and keeping the boat from bouncing so bad. If you throw them out and it slows you down to much or you need to change course we will use the trolling motor a little but basically we just drift with the wind. Worst parts about fishing in the wind to me is the bouncing, speed, and boat control. The socks help a lot with the first 2 but its difficult to fish a certain area when the wind get to bad. Just gotta make due then.....

I just wondered what you do when you hit a hot spot and have to turn around. Just leave em out, turn around, and get back with the wind? Or would you fish back against the wind until you need to turn around again? Sorry for all the questions

We fish with the wind until we decide to go back and make another pass. Pull up the socks and put em in the boat and use the big motor to motor back. We mark our staring point on GPS and try to start in the same spot each pass which works good if the wind is constant and we caught fish the last pass. The wind kept shifting the other day so we just did the best we could on lining back up for each drift. Our drifts were in the same general area the other day but no 2 drifts were ever the same due to the wind.

Nice catch. My hats off to you for staying with it through the windy conditions.

Nice mess and way to battle the wind. I see a little ornery in those pictures possibly?
