I tried braid a few years ago when it was the "rage" and thought the thinner dia and low stretch would work to our advantage when trolling faster and deep. Spent quite a lot of money to put it on most of my trolling rods but never could get used to it. I know a lot of folks that use it with great success but it didn't work for me. Our rigging is as simple as it gets and we like it that way for a reason. We have learned over time how to troll deep, fast, slow, shallow, ect with the dia of the 6# flouro we use with different downrigger weights to put and keep our jigs in that sweet spot layer that produces bites. What we do works for us......that's all I can say. I will never say "never" when it comes to fishing and I might be using braid this time next year but it would take a drastic change to make that happen.

Braid has given me a whupping everytime I've tried to use it. Lot's of people like it, so I assume it is operator error.

I feel sure it was operator error in my case Randal......There are just too many great fishermen using it that swear by it for it not to be a good thing. I prob just didn't give it a fair shake. But, that being said, what we use now still works great for us and we're just too stubborn to change. Ever heard the saying, "If it ain't broke don't fix it"? LOL!!!

Yes, but ole Murphy's law seems to kick into effect on my fishing from time to time, and I just gotta go try something new trying to fix whatever ole Murphy has thrown my direction. Or sometimes someone that I know catches fish, leaves a little tidbit of info...
Hey, I just went out and bought some flourocarbon because you mentioned it in one of your posts. Now I gotta be trying that stuff.![]()

I'm sure it was operator error on my part but I don't know what is different about using the braid vs mono. I WAS using 8#flourocarbon leaders on the Power Pro 20/6 btw. I will say I use plain ole 7' M action rods but again, I used them with mono also. I really like the strength/diameter ratio on the braid though. Real shame.

I use the power pro and like it for certain reason's other than the fact it frays very easy and your gotta tie some good knots or it will slip through on hook sets. Somebody told me once you never wanna wet your knots with that stuff and I was like I have trouble with knots pulling out dry much less wetting them so heck no i've not been wetting them. ALmost wanna tie a knot in the tag end so it wont' pull through already.
Dag gum BRM there you go giving away my secret line (kite string). Cant hide nothing from you gewbers. At least i got my hds 12 before you did nanny nanny boo boo.
I started using braid and love it. If it ain't broke then my motto is make it better so it wont break lol.
