If Your Big Crappie Star Bound, Let Me Warn You It's a Long Hard Ride. CP
Yeah that tree is at least 25 feet long. The bottom half may be too heavy we'll see. I'm curious about the cardboard boxes...how do you get the stalks to stay at the angle you want and not fall over?
Well I've done it with buckets before like most on here use but I thought the boxes would be cheaper than wasting all those buckets and my plan is to get all the brush and boxes laid out before I mix the quick-crete up then with the aid of prolly my dad one of us shovels the mix over into a box while he's holding the brush in place. I may punch a couple holes in the boxes from side to side to keep it from tipping also....+ like this + I haven't cut any brush yet cause I don't want it drying out before I sink it, i'd rather it be green and sink better. Dads not too crazy about doing the boo buckets since last time we tried it with PVC and buckets we never caught a fish off them??? I ain't giving up just yet though. My theory is go crazy sinking, heck i'd take the saw out on the lake nearly to make it easy to make lots of places. I guess I wanna prove to myself it will either work wonders or is a total waste of time, should work though. The cardboard boxes are only a mold until the concrete sets. I figured anything could be used as a mold and boxes are easy to get. I may try to sink a bunch in Dequeen lake since it's a home town lake that according to the stocking program gets or got around 30,000 crappie this year in hopes that the added brush might give the lil guys time to grow up.
Use a trash bag inside the box before you add the crete. Try not to poke holes in the bag. The bag keeps the box from getting wet from the crete and falling a part before it sets.
When you go to drop the sets, tear off the top of the box and bag.
