    Default Passing the torch

Well i met this fellow at fall crappie camp. His name is Mickey and supergoose said i needed to help him learn how to use his lowrance depth finder. Now right away I could tell Mickey was very particular about his equipment and could tell he was frustrated because he couldn't operate it very easily. I offered to take him on a short run on Lake Nimrod and help him tune in his electronics. We hit it off and he even let me drive his stick steer boat which was my first time to operate one.

Well mickey had a bunch of questions also about spider rigging too. I gave him some jigs, wts, and rigged him up. Since the fall camp we have kept in touch and i enjoy hearing about his success fishing. He and his wife are hooked now for sure.

I got an invite to come fishing this weekend. So after pulling a 24 hr shift at work and catching a 2 hr nap i called mickie and told him i was on my way. I wasnt gonna bring my boat because he wanted me to help him learn how to use his new terrova . Well i got bad news as he went to launch his boat the tm hit his winch and ripped off his boat. So i load my boat up and told him to bring his motor home.

A few hours later we were on the water around 3 pm and chasing tail. We fished til dark and had 26 nice crappie.

Well we cleaned em up and ate a samwich exchanged stories and went to bed. We awoke the next morning and had some breakfast and again exchanged more stories. We hit the water shortly after daylight and the bite was even better, i kept hearing mickie say " i aint used to catching em like this". I chuckled to myself. By the end of 2 hours we had our limit and went exploring. I had a great time and great memories were made. I look forward to another trip after you get you cataracts fixed mickie. I know i will be in trouble then as you will see the bite better. He held his own and was a great net man too.

So i challenge everyone to help a new person out this upcoming year and pass the torch to say and don't just call them for a report on the fishing!!!! I was fortunate to have luvpt and blue thunder pass there knowledge onto me about jigs and meatgetter on minner killing. Just teasing jerry. God bless and happy new yr.
