That's the reason I went to the small duolock snaps.

I run 2 jig setups most of the time and just tie a loop knot on my main line a couple of feet up from the other jig (your weight) then if I can fit the doubled line and feed it through the small hook eye just run the bait back through and cinch it all down. I wondered about the knot weakening the line but i've landed strippers on it just fine, that Cajun red line is really tough to begin with.

This is my rig. Not an artist, but you can get the picture.
If I use jigs, the weight might only be 1/4oz to allow for the jig head weight. I do like a 3/8 weight if its fairly calm, and especially when the water is cooler, and I need to go SSSSLLLLLOOOOOWWWWW (0-.3)!!!! I use a 1/2 oz a lot also for this if I'm fishing a little deeper, but still need to go slow. I use a 3/4 or 1oz weight if I'm really deep, or in warmer water where i can go a bit faster, up to .4-.7

BTW, the loops to the Fast Snaps are 3-5" long.

I don't use that much weight on the bottom unless I'm going solo with minners. In a 2 jig setup I'm always using an two 1/8OZ jigs and that's all the weight I need with soft tip 10 to 12' B&M rods and 6LB line....plenty of feel and sink time ain't bad. I don't use all the swivels but I can see where the snaps would help give more action and easier to hook on the jigs cause trying to double up that loop and run it through the eye of the jig head can be tough. I never use any larger of a loop than I have to to pass my jig back through because I've had that loop to snag on limbs the bigger it is and even had jigs to come off, course the snaps would fix that, I like that part of the setup. I've heard the weight on the bottom helps locate brush before your hook does but I don't usually run a bottom bell weight unless i'm minnow fishing.

I think the rig BRM is talking about is for spideriggin, which is basically the same way I do mine. The bottom weight is necessary to keep the lines vertical when trolling, and the snap at the bottom lets you change weights quickly depending on speed, jig weight, etc. With this method, you don't really have to worry about feel and sink time. But your method is dead on for vertical jigging.

My main line has a snap swivel. The hook rig has a loop on both ends and hooks tied on with a leader. Everything is 1 foot apart. The bottom loop for sinker is a bit harder to change out the sinkers.

I found some fast snaps on ebay at a good price. Free shipping! I asked the vendor for a combined price for one paypal payment. He included a shipping fee. Got to wait on him to correct it.

This is proof that you should tie your rigs the way YOU like best. There is no right or wrong way to do it. Every rig catches fish, IF you know how to catch them in the first place. Don't sweat the details, just tie some and hit the lake.

    Good thread.
