Actually a really good question..... It is actually a 6 inch piece of pipe insulation zip tied to the rod. I use it to hook my top hook into on the double rigs I use. I hook the bottom hook on the hook keeper at the bottom and the top hook to the foam. It's a little ghetto but works pretty dang good and only cost about .30 each. I have the EZ Keepers on my other poles and they work real well also. You can buy them at Academy for $2.99 each. This picture shows you what they both look like.
