    Default 25 hp E-tec

I am looking for a new 25 hp motor and am considering the E-tec. I have heard some very good things about it, but also some bad reviews a couple of years ago. I need a motor that is dependable. Can anyone give me their opinion on the 25 E-tec? Is there another 25 hp motor that is better? Thanks for any help.

I have a 2008 115hp etec and have never had one problem and wouldn't trade it for any other motor. I duck hunt with a guy who has a 25 and he loves it as well but I gotta say the old mercury 25 2 stroke is a tough little engine. I have one on my duck boat and beat the crap out it every year in the bayou meto, not to mention it's the best yoyo running motor ever built with the shift in the throttle.

I would call BRM and pick his brain and get some prices on various motors. With that being said, like every motor, it seems the E-Tec had it's growing pains when it first arrived. If you look back at history you will find the same things with the Optimax, HPDI's, FITCH, etc. Those issues usually seems to be more so with the larger displacement engines and you don't hear many negative comments about the smaller engines such as the 25 and 40hp. However, with todays technology trends I think it would be hard to beat a four stroke. Over the years I have ran traditional two stroke, DFI two stroke, and now four stroke. The four stroke has been my favorite. The manufacturers have really put a lot of work into perfecting them over the last several years and you rarely hear of issues with them. My

Got a 25 etec. Mine has been back in the shop 4-5 times. Twice for sucking something up and blocking water flow to the computer. Once for a leaking oil tank. once for me getting a load of water somehow. I can be motoring along and if any leaves or trash is in the water it will accumulate on my prop and it will cavitate. Reverse to blow it off and go again for a couple of hundred yards and it will gather a load of trash again. Last sunday I was motoring down the lake and it quit. Either a load of water again or trash causing overheating.

Yamaha, four stroke, is all I can say. Best motor I have ever had, runs quiet, does not consume fuel, and has amazing torque and power.
