I like the ETEC best of all the 25's. I've sold a bunch of them with very few problems. Every brand out there can have a problem, but there is no more with the ETEC's than any other.

Call me or PM me for a great deal on any brand.

a friend got a 25hp etec and loves it. Had it for over a year now and fishes Sardis ALOT. It has not let him down but the prop that comes on it is easy to bend when you hit a stump. Get a SS prop. hope this helps

I had a 1984 35 HP Johnson for 20 years and it never missed a beat. With all the changes that OMC went through I don't know about the new motors. I now have a 2000 mdoel 25 HP Merc and it has been flawless so far. Had to learn how to cold start it, but once I figured that our it has been gang busters.

Hey BRM, I was told that Toshiba builds the 25 Merc and 25 Nissan. Do you know if that is true or not?

Tohatsu has always built the Nissan. Nissan has never built an outboard, and Tohatsu and Nissan are identical engines. The Mercury is a Tohatsu built engine from the 30hp down. Tohatsu just contracted with BRP to build the Evinrudes from a 15hp down. They will be 4-Strokes. The ETEC 2-Strokes will go from the 25 up.

Thanks for the info. To be honest, I would never have bought a Tohatsu engine because I am a child of the 60's which was OMC and Merc. I always had been an OMC fan (Johnson) but I bought a 2000 Tracker with a 25 HP Merc (Tohatsu I guess) on it and it is one super engine. I was skeptical when I got it that a 25 would plane off a 16.5" Bass Boat with a couple of guys but it actuall jumps on plane better than my 35 Johnson did. I had originally thought I would swap out for a 40 HP 2 stroke Yamaha (now that is one dude of an engine) but I am so pleased with the 25 Merc that it will be with me until one of us dies. Love going on 2 or 3 fishing trips and using about $10 worth of gas.

The early Merc 4-Strokes were Yamaha's. The EFI's are Tohatsu.

My 25 etec was stopped up again. Blew air back through it and started flowing water again. Third time and two were just motoring down the lake. Sucks trash and leaves onto the prop when i motor down the river.

Crappie bite twice a day. 15 minutes before I get there and 10 minutes after I leave.
