I am no biologist, but here is my opinion, seeing as how I Have never been to that Lake, my question to you would be did you see any forage fish while you were there, (shad, minnows)? Crappie are a predatory fish they eat to survive, they survive by eating. The bite could have just started I guess but I doubt it. Being that crappie are predatory fish, one would assume a higher matabolism. But the lack of forage fish in their gut would also lead up to another question. Is their a shortage of forage fish? I would say no if the crappie appear to be heathy. It could be that the crappie you caught today were not actively feeding today, thus meaning that they probably would not have any content in their stomach. Most of the places I fish have a over abundance of forage fish/bait fish, and I to have cleaned fish that had nothing in their stomach. I have asked myself the same question you are asking now, but I have never sold myself on the answer I always come up with, and that is. Why do I not see any bait fish or peices of bait fish In jthis fishes stomach?
