Default What do you think ??

We fished Overcup yesterday brought home 15 good crappie also got a few white bass and 3 black bass. My question is this when I cleaned the crappie I was interested in their stomach contents I could not find any food in their stomach (shad pieces) minnows etc. basically nothing I found nothing. The fish were in good health so they have been eating do crappie have a fast metabolisim rate or do not eat very often I do not know the answer. One reason I was curious was because of the recent full moon and the theory that crappie feed heavily during this time causing the slow bite. What do you think?good fishing ks

I am no biologist, but here is my opinion, seeing as how I Have never been to that Lake, my question to you would be did you see any forage fish while you were there, (shad, minnows)? Crappie are a predatory fish they eat to survive, they survive by eating. The bite could have just started I guess but I doubt it. Being that crappie are predatory fish, one would assume a higher matabolism. But the lack of forage fish in their gut would also lead up to another question. Is their a shortage of forage fish? I would say no if the crappie appear to be heathy. It could be that the crappie you caught today were not actively feeding today, thus meaning that they probably would not have any content in their stomach. Most of the places I fish have a over abundance of forage fish/bait fish, and I to have cleaned fish that had nothing in their stomach. I have asked myself the same question you are asking now, but I have never sold myself on the answer I always come up with, and that is. Why do I not see any bait fish or peices of bait fish In jthis fishes stomach?

You have simply found a school of fish that have not been feeding for awhile and have digested the last meals. This is good news as you have probly found an area they have begun to move into to begin feeding and you should be able to return to that spot with more good results...Let Em Have it and man all Battle Station's!!!... cos they are starting to mount an all out assault into that area to begin FEEDING!!!. Good Luck Kieth
