All the reports bout the low water and off colored water are correct, but if you're willing to work at it, I've been catching the fire out of em a bit north of the area you're talking bout. Not sure why, but one lake will be dead, but then the next one will be on fire. My tip in low water is to fish oxbows that have a defined "bend" in them. Go straight to the bend and you'll find the deepest water (of course deep may mean 2' right now), and you'll find the fish. Find a line of cane that's been put out in those areas, or put one out yourself, and on sunny days you'll wreck em off of them. If it's cloudy there'll still be a few on cover, but either scull or let the wind drift you through the same area and you'll catch em. IMO crappie can and do live and will bite in much shallower water than folks give them credit. Good luck!!!

Also, consider deeper bayous that typically have flow in em when water levels are higher. The water tends to be clearer in these than the lakes when everything is low. The mouths of bayous are a good pick this time of year b/c they tend to be deeper and always have plenty of cover to dip jigs around.

Just got back. Wasn't good. With the weather turning off cold, the bite was very very very slow. We fished all day just for enough crappie to eat. One night, we had to kill a couple squirrels to go with the 8 or 9 crappie. It was that bad. Escronges was low, but you could put a boat in off the ramp fine. Water was pretty, but the tops are all out of the water. Horseshoe was the same way, but the water was still pretty deep in there. Columbus was low on the north end and muddy. H lake was beautiful, but still the tops are up on the bank. All in all, we had a great time, seen lots of wildlife, including a bear on the way in, and enjoyed the muddy camping, but the fishing was horrible.

Glad you had a good time. You would think that this time of year when the water was low that fishing would be good.
Thanks for the reports.
