They are not too bad in the river until close to dark or daylight. Seems to me the daylight pushes em deeper in the water column.

What do they eat? Are they a threat to native species? What happens to sport fishing if they infest a lake? Can commercial fishing, say dragging a net near the surface at dusk, help decrease their population? What about commercial uses, i.e. fertilizer?

The Asian Carp are strictly plankton feeders. These fish feed on the basic building block of the fish food chain, (shad are also plankton feeders). As far as the commercial feasibility of Asian Carp go the price paid to the commercial fisherman is barely enough to make it worth his while to fish for them. There is no problem catching tons of them in a net but the profit is marginal for the fisherman and the processor from the research I have done.
Once someone figures out the $$$$ reward for catching/processing these nuance fish everyone will benefit.
