Help choosing a boat...

I am moving to the area. Gonna live on the end of Table Rock at Holiday Island. Gonna fish for crappie and bass on Table Rock and chase Stripers on Beaver.

I am in the boat market... have a family of 5 on the boat.

Considering a deep V alluminum vs. Fiberglass bass boat vs. alluminum bass boat.

Any comments, concerns, opinions, advice is welcome and appriciated.

I have never fished Table Rock or Beaver Lake... looking forward to it. (got 3 boys age 11,6,3 and my wife)

I think you should go right on Down to Flippin AR... and pull the trigger on one of those brand new Ranger Bass boats, you will be happy you did for those lakes up there. Just make sure you check your bank account before you pull the trigger. Thats what I would do if I lived up there and could afford it.

Crazy talk. Unless you are loaded with cash. There are tons of good used boats around there for lots less. Folks uy then don't use them. Then die or take up golf or some other hobby. I see good old rangers like 361s and 482s going for 5-6 thousand all the time.

If I had 5 people fishing all the time on those big lakes id have a 28' pontoon boat. You can fish all right and the wife and kids wont drive you near as crazy when they get bored. You could make her grill some burgers for lunch.

Go on ebay or craig's list and find a good late model bass boat. I jsut watched a 2005 Citgo Bassmaster Edition Triton TX20 with a Honda V-Tec 4 stroke 225HP go for $18,600. Thought my wife was gonna throw the laptop away. I agree with Gomer there are plenty of GOOD used boats on market.

Nothing crazy about buying a nice new boat if you can afford it. Every serious fisherman should do it it at least one time in thier life. I hate buying somebody else's used stuff... Give me a new boat with a solid warantee, from a reputable dealer any day. Ive seen too many buddy's buy a used boat and bite the bullet on thousands in repairs right after they buy it. There's something special knowing the boat you fish out of is yours and has been your's only. Like meatgetter says dont take on somebody elses head ache.

There's a lot to think about ... if it's just you & the boys fishing, go with an aluminum like a Grizzly or War Eagle, you can always upgrade as they get older. If it's going to be a 'family' affair, get the pontoon as suggested above and get the aluminum as a second boat later. Are you going to tow it? I've always bought 'used', you save a ton of money, there's always plenty of 'em around, but they can be a headache. Just do your homework first, it's not hard to tell when a boat has been well taken care of and when it's hasn't.
