    Default Lake Conway (FYI)

I was on Lake Conway the last couple of weekends and I witness what appeared to be rookies to the lake screw up, I have seen 4 boats tore up in the last 2 weekends, Folks Conway is low, there are stumps in the boat lanes, stumps that you would normally not have to worry about if the lake was at normal level. A seasoned veteran to lake conway can still navigate the lake with out a whole lot of problems, however new comers and people who have not fished the lake for several years are at risk of doing some serious damage to thier boats and outboards, and trolling motors. I have been on the lake most all of my life and I know where these stumps are in these boat lanes, but someone new to the lake does not have a clue as to what lies just beneath the surface in some of these boat lanes. I aint telling you folks this to discourage ya'll from fishing Lake Conway, Conway is a great fishery, but I really dont want to hear about any one destroying a boat or worse getting hurt. If you see some one running across Conway at wide open throttle there is 1 of 3 things going on, 1. They are a season veteran, 2. They are not aware of the dangers just below the surface or 3. they saw someone else do it and think that they can do it also. Exercise extreme caustion on Conway right now and until the water level returns to normal. There is no fish or fishing trip worth getting hurt over. Also watch out for this heat, it will sneak up on you before you know its there. Hoping you folks the best of luck in you fishing endevours.

Sorry this for the long winded post, just thought everyone needed to know the lakes status.

Good advise guru. Greers is getting low also. For the last 4 years the lake has been high this time of year but due to the lack of rain this spring the lake is 4+ feet below normal pool.

Great report! As Nimrod drops towards fall there are stumps just under the surface. I see folks risking life and limb very often, not even considering risk to equipment . I know this lake like the back of my hand, yet proceed with caution when it drops close to 342 msl. I see folks run through stump rows and fields on a regular basis. Watching a depthfinder is a false sense of security. We have stumps near the surface in mid lake within a few feet of 30 + feet of water!
I used to fish Conway years ago and have run the boat trails in excess of 50 mph. Better know the lake at normal to high levels. No way am I going to run it with low water period!

Fish and have fun but when water levels drop even on familar waters proceed with caution!

Yep, i've fished Conway my whole life. But i wouldn't run at much more than a fast idle right now, and that's in the boat lanes. I'm going to spend the day out there on the 4th. Probably going to just troll whenever possible. Thanks for the report.

I've fished that lake most of my life too, and i wont run fast in the lanes even with water at normal level. Those stumps will get you. When i was a kid, dad was running fast across there, hit a stump, tore a gash in bottom of boat and threw him over the front. Be very careful, ESPECIALLY with low water.

If Lake Conway gets any lower, y'all look for the lower unit I lost there in 1968. It was in the smack dab middle of Boat Lane D.

Oh the notorious d trail, it's the one trail on Conway that has stumps that like to grab and hold floating logs in the trail. There be some dandy stumps in d trail for sure. But it is not the only trail filled with stumps. A trail thru G trail are all stumpy and trail one and two are stumpy, trail one is the worst, it's a cut trail from start to finish, at normal level the stumps are just 3' under your boat.

Yeah and I've always wondered why the G&Fish won't go in and cut those outa the boat lanes. There are a buncha lakes just like it too, Millwood, Harris Brake, White Oak, Atkins and many more!

I know why they don't cut them, I took it upon myself during the last draw down to do a little trimming of some of the stumps that were notorious for causing problem, I have a stilh chainsaw with a 24" bar, it is a mighty saw, and with a brand new super sharp chain it was still nearly impossible to whittle through those water logged stumps. 2 stumps and your chain was shot. I have cut a lot of wood through the years and cutting a lake Conway water logged stump had to be the worst wood I have ever tried to cut.
