Default Going to Nimrod next weekend.....

Alright Nimrod guys, I'm needing some help. On memorial day weekend my family and I stayed at Sunlight Bay Campgrounds and fished that part of Nimrod all weekend. We caught a massize amount of brim and only two crappie. As much fun as that was, I still wanted to get my hook into a mess of crappie. Never could find them. This next weekend I am going back with my in-laws and plan to fish again. This time, I want some crappie. I've heard it's best to fish over structure in the main part of the lake in deeper water this time of year but from where I'll be the main body of Nimrod is a good mile or two drive by boat. I could do that but it would take me a good bit to travel there and back. Plus I am not familiar with Nimrod. I would like to be able to launch from Sunlight and maybe find a good spot within that area. Anyone ever fish around there? I guess what I am asking for is maybe a few tips. What kind of depth should I fish? What kind of structure should I look for? Should I troll? Any tips would be great. And if anyone is going to be around that area hit me up. Always look forward to meeting fellow crappie.comers. Thanks guys!

If you don't want to fish the main lake your best bet is the river channel, look for down trees and brush along the bank that comes out in to deep water, the fish will be on the deepest edges of this structure, try fishing 8-10ft deep this should help you find some fish, you may have to do alot of culling unless you don't mind keeping 8-9 inch fish, good luck!

Thanks Greg. That's where I caught those two crappe memorial day. My brother and I had found a small cove off the river and found some downed trees hanging over about 9ft of water.

Basscat, I am seriously thinking of trying out minnows this time. We had some last time but didnt use them. Once the brim started biting we loaded up on some crickets and went to town. And what are the flats?

We were on the south side of the channel from the launch at Carden cove......100 ft off the bank......water was from 4 to 5 ft deep .......for 200 yards from bank....then a foot deeper every 100 to 200 ft back to the channel....maybe not a flat.....but sure was the same depth for a long way...

You need to fish deeper Basscat1, Yesterday morning with the cooler weather and clouds fish were not on cover. The fish bit better after sun put them on structure. I kept a limit and released lots under 10'' , caught most later after sun popped out strong. Caught them all on jigs over cover. One day last week, I did'nt launch till noon and did real good. Sounds strange to some but in hot weather best times can be during mid day heat!
deep fried crappie , I have had no good reports lately in the river. Fish in 8 to 12' water near cover with jigs in main lake or drag minnows along cover or drops. Launch at Carden Point , stop and get a map for piles from COE. Otherwise don't expect much, I see folks cleaning fish almost daily. The ones I see fishing up river have been on the small side.

That's what I was afraid of. Where is Carden Point? I'll be coming in from Hwy 60. I may check it out and just launch from there. I talked to a few guys last weekend and they said the same. Crappie have moved from the river out to the deeper parts of the lake. If anything, I'll just try for brim again.
