10 foot jigging pole with a zebco 11t reel with 6 pound stren flourescent line and a pocket ful of black/chartreuse mini jigs on 1/32 ounce heads and a jar of crappie nibbles has filled my cooler several times. A 6 ft spinning rod /reel combo or a light action casting rod with a decent spin cast reel with the same baits can work. Lots good and provide some action from other species. of crappies have met their end to fishermen in boats with no depth finder. Below the dams can be good and turn up other species.
Crappie bite twice a day. 15 minutes before I get there and 10 minutes after I leave.
