Lake Ouachita

I'm headed up to fish Lake Ouachita with my father-in- law this Friday through Sunday. Anybody got and tips for catching Crappie/ Bass there? Heard any reports? My father-in-law fishes there all the time but when I go with him he takes off with his sons in his ranger and leaves me and my brother in my 15 ft war eagle without a clue as to where to fish.

I fished Ouachita last week. Caught several nice 2-4 lb bass in 2-5 fow in the mornings near buck brush and laydowns on plastic worms. Caught a few bass in 10-15 fow off rocky points and laydowns mid-day on plastic worms and pig/jig. I found a few crappie in 10-15 fow around brush piles and laydowns, but couldn't find them consistently. Good luck.

Sounds like you ain't his pick for a son in law. Better work things out or just fish without his help.

You know where Simpson's Hollow is? If so that would be a short boat ride from where you are going to be and it is known to hold lots of crappie. I haven't fished it in years but I have caught them in there in the past. Also there are a few brush piles marked with blue signs nailed up in the trees in that area of the lake. There is one just east of Shangrila on the opposite side of the lake from the camp ground. If you go across the lake and just run next to the bank, travel east, and you can easily find it. It will be before the river channel bends toward Mtn. Harbor. I know there are a couple of other marked piles but I can't remember where they are off the top of my head. The crappie have been suspended over brush in 10-15 fow. You can catch them by slow rolling a 2" grub. If that don't work try a tube under a slip cork. As far as bass go, I haven't been fishing for them but if I were going to my top three choices for baits right now would be a fluke, wacky rigged senko, and a trick worm rigged on a jighead. I would look for them to be shallow in the pockets or on secondary points. Hope you catch a bunch!
